LaToya White, MS, PA-C

Position: Psychiatric Physician Assistant Board Certified from Towson University

LaToya received her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Towson University. She started her healthcare career 18 years ago as a combat medic in the United States Army, treating soldiers and their families. LaToya has worked in Geriatric psychiatry in a local nursing facility. She also has worked on multiple inpatient psychiatric units.

She has experience working with a diverse group of patients. Most recently, LaToya worked on research studies with children and adolescents battling chronic health problems and the natural process of aging. She believes that fostering our mental health is an important part of treating our overall wellness.

Anissa Salerno, PMHNP-BC

Position: Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified From Walden University

Anissa Salerno, PMHNP, is a Child and Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Anissa manages and treats a wide range of mental health concerns, including Autism, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and Eating Disorders. Her approach to care recognizes that every patient is unique and should be treated as such.

Anissa provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management with special attention to individual needs, personal history, stressful or traumatic life experiences, and concerns about medications. Anissa approaches patient care with patience, warmth, understanding, and helpful explanations that facilitate treatment and the patient’s sense of comfort and trust. She approaches treatment from a nonjudgmental space allowing the professional relationship to develop. This approach is successful in meeting the needs and desired outcomes of each client. Anissa’s primary focus is providing honest communication with her patients and quality resources for all those involved.

Julia Kurisch, LCPC, has been working in the mental health field for over 10 years. She received her Master’s Degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and her counseling certification from Loyola University.

Julia is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Sexual Offender Treatment. Working from a primarily CBT standpoint, she incorporates different modalities, such as sand tray therapy and Internal Family Systems, to bring awareness to clients’ ability to heal themselves. Julia has extensive experience working with adolescents and adults with trauma, depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues.

Kathryn DeRaffele, LCPAT, ATR-BC

Position: Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist/ Associate Director- Baltimore Office Masters in Professional Studies in Art Therapy from School of Visual Arts

Kathryn is a licensed and board-certified art therapist. Over the past 10-years, she has worked with children and adults in a variety of settings. Kathryn has been a counselor and art therapist at Balance Point Wellness since 2017, specializing in interpersonal dynamics, attachment, trauma, and recovery. Her therapeutic approach focuses on healing, resiliency, adaptive coping, and personal insight from a humanistic perspective.

She also uses evidence-based models such as TF-CBT, CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness strategies in her practice. In addition to traditional counseling techniques, Kathryn values art-making as a vehicle for cathartic release, identity development, and healing. She believes that as human beings, we all have a creative side no matter our age, experience level, or background. Germaine Banner-Wills, LCPC

Position: Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Bowie State University.

Germaine has experience working with adults, couples, and families in outpatient therapy and Residential Crisis settings. One of her core beliefs is perspective is everything! She values the individual perspectives of each of the clients she serves. Germaine has experience treating clients with ADHD, anxiety and mood disorders, substance use disorders, personality disorders, and trauma. She is also passionate about working with clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses.

She believes in an eclectic approach to working with clients, opting to use various treatment strategies to address their needs and goals. Germaine utilizes guided meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and deep breathing to help her clients center and get in touch with their authentic self. She believes that an inner voice can help clients gain insight, resolve feelings associated with trauma, and regulate emotions. She uses mindfulness-based strategies alone or in conjunction with other treatment modalities such as CBT, Acceptance, and Commitment therapy (ACT), and DBT. Germaine has a holistic approach to treatment; assisting clients in exploring various aspects of their environment, such as nutrition work and exercise, impacts their functioning. She encourages them to explore making changes that can positively impact their emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.

Ronald Howley, LCPC

Position: Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University.

Ronald is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Before joining the Balance Point team, Ron worked at a group practice where he provided individual and group therapy. He has experience working with children, teenagers, and adults.

Most of his focus on teenagers with problem behaviors. Ron works with a wide range of diagnoses, including (but not limited to) Anxiety, Depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and physical abuse. Ron uses a CBT approach but believes in allowing the client to drive, which modality works best for them.

Jaime Marcucci, LMSW

Position: Licensed Master Social Worker Masters in Social Work from University of Maryland School of Social Work

Jaime is a Licensed Master Social Worker who earned her degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Jaime has experience working with children and adolescents in school settings in areas such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and grief support. She also works with adults in the clinic setting.

Jaime’s clinical passions include anxiety, grief/loss, and life transitions. She utilizes a strengths-based approach and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and believes in the power of humor with her clients. Jaime understands that therapy is a collaborative effort where the client and therapist work together to create positive changes and accomplish goals.

Caroline Robertson is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor holding a Master’s degree in Clinical Professional Counseling from Loyola University Maryland. She has experience working with children and families and is specifically skilled in utilizing digital play therapy. She is completing training to be a bilingual English/Spanish provider.

Caroline’s approach emphasizes client-centered techniques and interpersonal interactions to foster self-awareness and meet psychological wellness goals. She believes quality therapy is built on a strong client-therapist relationship and uses a variety of techniques to establish trust and communication skills with clients.

James’ clinical experience includes helping clients with anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and more.

James describes his approach to counseling as leaning heavily into person-centered principles, with an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. James enjoys working with diverse people and firmly believes that they have their own strengths even if they may not immediately recognize them. In working with diverse people, James likes to let clients’ personal values guide the therapeutic process.

Shira Katz, LGPC

Position: Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University

Shira received her master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University. Her education is a culmination of years of teaching and mentoring teenagers in the community. She has experience working with individuals and groups of all ages on various mental health concerns. She believes in meeting clients where they are at, helping them find their inner wisdom, and guiding them in a non-judgmental, empathetic space.

She simultaneously focuses on finding practical solutions to currents concerns and improving one’s wellbeing while healing the past that has left its impact. Shira works with teenagers and adults with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, poor self-esteem, and PTSD utilizing an integrative holistic approach according to each client’s needs, including CBT, attachment and inner child work, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, and body-based therapy, and expressive therapies. She strives to make therapy a safe and comfortable place where clients can develop a deeper and more compassionate understanding of themselves and how to live their best life.

Jessica Qureshi, LGPC

Position: Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor from George Washington University

Jessica is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The George Washington University. Jessica has been trained in cognitive behavioral individual and family therapy by the Youth and Family Services Bureau. She has experience working with substance use disorders, trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, and psychosis. She has worked for the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center as a substance use and mental health counselor. She is passionate about incorporating cultural identity into therapy and helping clients explore who they are and how their personality helps them make their way in the world.

Jessica is available to work with young adults and adults in individual or family therapy. Sometimes our minds are not safe spaces for us, and Jessica is committed to working with you to make your mind a safe and peaceful place for you to be.
